Μετά την αναχώρηση από το σχολείο, Melanie σπούδασε στο Bird College of Performing Arts στο Κεντ.Η μουσική καριέρα της ξεκίνησε το 1996 ως ένα πέμπτο μ'ελος τών Girls Spice. Ένα πραγματικά παγκόσμιο φαινόμενο, παραμένουν ένα από τα πιο εμπορικά επιτυχημένα group στην πρόσφατη ιστορία . After leaving school, Melanie studied at the Bird College of Performing Arts in Kent. Her musical career began in 1996 as one fifth of the iconic Spice Girls. A truly worldwide phenomenon, they remain one of the most commercially successful acts in recent history and one of the most memorable girl bands of all time. With countless accolades to their name, including 4 Brit Awards, they dominated the late 1990’s with 9 UK Number 1 singles and 2 Number 1 albums that sold over 53 million copies.

nsMelanie’s first solo venture was featuring on the hit single ‘When You’re Gone’ with Bryan Adams. Incredibly successful across Europe, it entered the UK charts at Number 3 and gave Melanie aspirations for more solo projects. As a solo artist, Melanie has released four solo albums. Northern Star (1999) and Reason (2003) were released on the Virgin Records label. After setting up her own Red Girl Records label in 2004, she has gone on to release Beautiful Intentions (2005) and This Time (2007). She has achieved over 3 million album sales, 2 Number 1 singles, 6 Top 10 singles and over 200 combined weeks on the UK chart.

Due to her strong European fanbase a track entitled ‘First Day of My Life’ became one of her biggest hits to date, selling over 400,000 copies in Germany alone where it still holds the record for the most downloaded single in chart history. It also went on to chart at Number 1 in Spain, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland and Portugal where it helped to propel the album ‘Beautiful Intentions’ to double platinum status and kept it at Number 1 for 9 weeks.

liveTouring and performing live has always been Melanie’s first love and she has played over 200 live gigs in her solo career. In 2006 she celebrated this by releasing her first ever DVD – ‘Live Hits’ – which showcased her ability to perform both electric and acoustic sets. In June 2007 came the announcement of the Return of the Spice Girls tour. Any initial reluctance to a reunion was overcome by spending time with four friends she had travelled the world with. Melanie relished the opportunity to perform in venues such as the O2 in London and New York’s Madison Square Garden leaving audiences impressed by her energy, presence and live vocals.

bbSince then, Melanie has been busy with European promotion, a tour of Canada and performances at summer festivals in Europe. Melanie’s first baby arrived in February 2009 and she has embraced motherhood with the same dedication as her career. As Melanie was contemplating her return to writing and recording new songs for her fifth solo album, the opportunity to audition for Blood Brothers presented itself. The show has always been a favourite of Melanie’s so the offer of the part of Mrs Johnstone was a challenge that she was delighted to accept.
